But HOW?!

How do you let go of the anger of the past? How do you let go of what people have done to you in the past? How do you ever truly forget? How do you ever truly forgive? It's harder than people realize sometimes. And no matter how trivial something seems, to someone else, it's something BIG. Some things just hurt too much...

i agree..it's not easy. I battle with it everyday, even when i know i must forget, let go and move forward.

You’ll always get people giving you such advice – I’ve done it myself – but what it comes down to really is your own nature. You’re either the forgiving type or you aren’t. I may get irritated or annoyed with people, but I don’t think I’ve ever hated anyone – not since childhood anyway. That’s just my temperament; it’s not something I’ve worked at.

Having said that, experience can alter your attitudes. Younger people tend to hold very polarised views; as they get older and experience more, they are likely to be more capable of seeing things from other points of view, which is one of the keys to tolerance and forgiveness.

Simply accepting that people have far less control over their own actions than they like to believe is a step. “Okay, he/she behaved like an utter bastard, but that’s just who they are.” Recite that a few times before going to bed every night. :)

Uhh, it's never easy. I usually avoid people who have harmed me, I thought it's so much better than retaliating or plotting bad stuff to them. But forgive and forget, umm not really.
