Thought Question #52

What a question!!
People don't give themselves time to get to know themselves.  People don't explore, don't search for more.  People don't always do what makes them happy.  Society is a bitch, for sure.  There are things that we have to do, to survive, to get somewhere in life.  There are things like bills and taxes and doing the dishes and laundry, that we don't like but that we have to do, regardless if we want to or not.  So we do it.  Then there are things that we like, that we don't do.  Like the guy on the corner that loves to paint, but he doesn't have the tools or means to do it.  Or someone wanting to work in Hollywood but have only the means to work in an office for measly pay, supporting her/himself and the family.  There are so many stories just like that.  Someone that just wants to look after their family and spend time with them, because they like it and they want it, but they have to work two jobs to keep them happy financially, with food and clothes and somewhere to live.  Then there's the guy who wants to be a cartoon artist but his family sends him away to law school or something, he doesn't like what he does, but he makes other people happy.

There are a million different reasons, all sad but true.

Because the world is too much.
Because by the time we get home every day, all we want is rest.
Because we spend most of our time awake thinking about the future, instead of being present.

And, perhaps, because we're all afraid. We're afraid of helping others achieve goals, because if they do, where would that leave us? We're afraid of asking for help with our own, because in a world where the weak don't survive, why would we show vulnerability? And we're so afraid of living, because if we do, what would we have to dream about?

(I'm sorry if that sounded a little cranky, I'm tired and I've just spent the past fifteen hours at school analysing writing, workshopping songs, and cramming for an exam.)

Maybe we're all just oblivious to the fact that we're going to die one day...
